Our journey through Greece began with a cruise through the Cyclades, where each island revealed its own landscapes, history, and character. Whitewashed villages climbed hillsides above busy harbors, church domes and bell towers stood against deep blue skies, and winding pathways led through communities shaped by centuries of life at sea. Light and color changed constantly throughout the day, from bright morning views as we approached a new port to the warm tones of evening along waterfronts and village streets. Each stop felt like opening another chapter, with every island adding new experiences and images to the journey.
After experiencing the islands, we returned to Athens and had time to explore the city in greater depth. Here, modern life unfolds around layers of history stretching back thousands of years. The Acropolis of Athens rises above the city, crowned by the Parthenon, while streets, markets, and neighborhoods reveal reminders of Greece’s many eras. Athens offered a different perspective than the islands—less about changing horizons and sea views, and more about discovering the remarkable blend of ancient history and everyday life that exists throughout the city.
