Mykonos is one of the most iconic islands in the Cyclades, known for its brilliant whitewashed villages, narrow winding lanes, and striking contrast between traditional Cycladic architecture and a lively, cosmopolitan atmosphere. The main town, Chora, sits on a sheltered bay where fishing boats and luxury yachts share the harbor, and restaurants, shops, and bars line the waterfront. By day, the island feels sun-drenched and maze-like, with bougainvillea spilling over white walls and small chapels tucked into tight corners; by night, the town comes alive with energy. Despite its reputation as a party town, Mykonos still retains quieter corners and timeless Aegean beauty, especially at sunrise or away from the main town’s bustle.

We were on our own to explore Mykonos Town (Chora) at our leisure, but we were warned to be back on the ship before it sailed at 2:00am! We were asleep well before the deadline. (2736)
Agios Nikolaos of Kadena
This Greek Orthdox church sits at the edge of the harbor at Mykonos Old Port. Its blue dome is framed by the whitewashed houses of Chora climbing the hillside behind. Dedicated to the patron saint of sailors, the small church has welcomed travelers arriving by sea for centuries. (2731)

The Galileo docked at the new port built for larger ships, so we rode a “Water Bus” to the old port at Mykonos Town. Restaurants and shops lined the harbor area, eager to get business from newly arriving visitors. (2752)
