One of Kythnos’s signature sights is Kolona Beach, a striking double-sided sandbar that connects the main island to a small islet, creating two beaches facing different directions. It’s one of the most photographed spots in the Cyclades, yet still feels relatively uncrowded compared to more famous Greek beaches. Overall, Kythnos is the kind of island where the experience is less about monuments and more about slow travel—walking stone paths, swimming in clear water, and watching the light shift over a very elemental landscape.
We stopped at Kythnos only for a swim, and for Sandy and me, a long snorkeling stop along the rocks. Consequently, I only have one photo from the Galileo barely showing the double-sided sandbar.
