Poros is a small, pine-covered island in the Saronic Gulf where steep green hills rise sharply from a narrow shoreline wrapped around a sheltered strait. The main town spills along the waterfront with neoclassical facades, cafés, and boat masts reflecting in the calm harbor, while a clock tower crowns the hill above, offering wide views across the channel. Despite its proximity to Athens, Poros feels relaxed and unhurried, blending maritime charm with wooded hillsides, quiet coves, and the easy rhythm of ferry traffic moving between mainland and island life.
We arrived after dinner on the Galileo to capture end-of-day lighting for street photography for Sandy and me. Others explored the harbor area for nightlife.
Poros
Poros combines a lively harbor town with pine-covered hills and calm waters, offering a greener and gentler character than many of Greece’s drier Cycladic islands to come. Our first stop, near Athens, was a change-of-plans to accommodate two travelers who were delayed by late flights. In the late afternoon through “blue hour”, it was a charming stop. (2671)

Poros Clock Tower
Built in 1927, the tower sits on the hill above Poros Town or “Chora” , and is visible from almost anywhere in the harbor and from boats approaching the island. (“Chora”, is the name frequently given to the main town.). (2695)
