The stunning drive along the Sounion Coast from Athens follows the western shoreline of the Attica Peninsula through a succession of beaches, rocky coves, and seaside villages. After a 1\u00bd  hour bus ride, we<\/span> reached the southern tip of the Attica Peninsula, ending at Cape Sounion, the peninsula’s southernmost point.  Here, the Temple of Poseidon stands atop towering cliffs, where for more than 2,400 years it has greeted sailors entering and leaving the Aegean Sea.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Built around 440 BC and dedicated to the Greek god of the sea, the temple occupies one of the most spectacular settings in Greece. Although only fifteen of the original Doric columns remain, the temple still conveys the elegance and harmony of Classical Greek architecture. From the hilltop, visitors enjoy sweeping views across the Aegean Sea toward the Cyclades Islands, making Cape Sounion one of the country’s most memorable places to experience both its ancient history and its breathtaking natural beauty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
