In this context, a gulf is a deep narrow ravine or gorge, with steep cliffs, waterfalls, and streams running along the bottom.  In the state park, there are three gulfs: Savage, Big Creek and Collins, all interconnected with trails both along the bottoms and at the top of the cliffs.  Four portals provide parking and allow easy access to trails.
